LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A woman died after her foot became caught in a float Saturday during the St. Patrick’s Day parade in the Highlands.
Aaron Ellis, a spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police, said just before 4 p.m. officers responded to the area of Bardstown Road and Grinstead Drive on a report of a pedestrian struck.
Police said a woman, believed to be in her 50s, was walking alongside a float when her foot became caught, causing her to fall underneath the vehicle.
The vehicle stopped and she was taken to UofL Hospital, where she died shortly afterward, police said.
In a statement on social media, Mayor Craig Geenberg said, "I am so sorry to hear about the tragic accident that took a woman’s life at today’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Please join Rachel and me in keeping her family and friends in your prayers. May her memory be a blessing."
