If you’re a UofL men’s basketball fan, you’re probably asking the question "what to do about Mikel Brown, Jr.?" Brown was paid a ton of NIL money and missed almost half the season with a back injury. UofL certainly did not get their money’s worth from him.
But then we’ve heard all year that he’s a one and done. He’s going to be a lottery pick in the NBA this spring. Is he? When he’s healthy he’s pretty talented. Half of the games he played he was outstanding, but frankly, the other half he was below average. Some of the best teams shut him down completely.
If I were an NBA GM, I think I would say, "Mikel, a college season is only 30 games, and you haven’t proven you can play much more than half of those. An NBA season is 82 games and much more grueling. Why don’t you stay in college another year and prove that this injury isn’t chronic? We’re just not going to risk millions of dollars on you until you show us you’re not fragile, because so far you have been. Show us some durability and consistency. You could benefit from one more year at UofL."
I’m Bill Lamb, and that’s my Point of View.
