We've talked about Glock switches that turn handguns into rapid fire machine guns. There is a federal law against them but not a Kentucky state law, which means only federal agents can make an arrest for possessing one unless it's used in the commission of a crime.
The bill to make them illegal in Kentucky has already passed the Republican-controlled House with a bipartisan vote and has moved to the Senate. But there are some Republicans there who oppose it. Some see it as an infringement of the Second Amendment. It isn't.
Some view the bill as a form of "new and additional gun control," even though the devices are already illegal federally. Other lawmakers stated they gave their constituents their "word" that they would always stand against further firearm restrictions. From a guy who owns guns, these sound like the arguments of fools.
Our forefathers were so much smarter than these current legislators. If they were alive today, they would look at what very bad people could do with a Glock switch in schools, churches, synagogues or a festival and would say "Times change! It isn't 1776 anymore! What is wrong with you people? You've got to think better than that? Glock switches aren't tools of self-defense. They're tools of mass destruction."
Look, senators. This isn't one of life's difficult decisions. Vote to make Glock switches illegal in Kentucky.
I'm Bill Lamb, and that's my Point of View.
