The trial of Brooks Houck and Joseph Lawson in the Crystal Rogers murder case is in its second week in Bowling Green 10 years after the mother of five disappeared in Bardstown.
Brooks Houck, Rogers' former boyfriend, is set to go before a jury on June 24 in Bowling Green.
The jury recommended a sentence of 17 years in prison. Formal sentencing will take place in Nelson County on Aug. 6.
Attorneys for Steve Lawson argued Monday that a mistake made in not performing DNA testing on two hairs found in Rogers’ car in 2015.
A motion filed on March 26 requests a postponement of the May 27 trial date for more time to test the DNA of two hairs found in Rogers' car nearly a decade ago.
Joseph and Steve Lawson have a hearing scheduled in Nelson County Circuit Court at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Last month, Houck's attorneys asked the high court to remove Judge Charles Simms III, arguing his "impartiality might reasonably be questioned from the perspective of a reasonable observer who is informed of all the surrounding facts and circumstances."
