LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Attorneys for one of three defendants charged in connection with the murder of Crystal Rogers want the judge to delay his trial.

A motion filed March 26 requests a postponement of the May 27 trial date for more time to test the DNA of two hairs found in Rogers' car nearly a decade ago and to possibly have the defense team conduct its own testing on the samples.

Lawson previously told investigators both he and his son, Joseph, were in Rogers' vehicle after she disappeared in July 2015.

This is not the first time Steve Lawson has asked a judge to push back his trial. He also asked the judge to postpone the trial in February, saying his defense hadn't had enough time to review all the evidence.

It's not clear when the judge will decide on the new postponement.

Joseph Lawson and the main suspect, Rogers' former boyfriend Brooks Houck, the last person seen with Rogers, are scheduled to stand trial in June.

Joseph Lawson pleaded not guilty in September 2023 to criminal conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with physical evidence in the Rogers case. He isn't charged with Rogers' murder but is charged him with conspiracy, meaning they believe he was involved in some way with Rogers' killer.

Rogers disappeared during the Fourth of July weekend in 2015. Her car was left running on the side of Bluegrass Parkway with her purse still inside. She's presumed dead, but her body was never found.
