LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One of the men charged in the murder of Crystal Rogers is getting ready for trial in May.
Steve Lawson appeared in a Nelson County courtroom Thursday.Ā
Lawson was supposed to go to trial this month. But his defense attorneys said February was too soon to get ready, and asked for the trial date to be postponed to give them more time to review evidence in the nearly 10-year-old case.
His trial is now scheduled for May 27.Ā
In court Thursday, the judge and his attorney discussed keeping pre-trial conferences in Nelson County before his trial in Bowling Green.
"For the defendants family, for the victim's family, for everybody involved it makes more sense to do everything here, if you all can agree on that," Judge Charles Simms III said.
Lawson's next court date is in April. He's charged with conspiracy to commit murder and tampering with evidence in the Crystal Rogers case.
Rogers, a mother of five, was last seen July 3, 2015. The next day, her car was found on the side of the Bluegrass Parkway with her purse, phone and keys still inside. Her body has never been found.Ā
Lawson's son Joseph Lawson and Brooks Houck, Rogers' boyfriend at the time of her disappearance and the father of one of her children, are scheduled to stand trial June 24.
