On Friday, Hankison’s attorneys filed several motions, including requesting a new trial, in part, because prosecutors misled jurors in their closing arguments about what other officers testified happened during the raid.

As part of his upcoming October trial, prosecutors have asked to present evidence of two past disciplinary cases against Hankison, including driving the wrong way down Dixie Highway holding his gun out the window. 

Defense attorneys have asked for Taylor's cell phone saying it could “correct the record” on whether Taylor was involved in selling drugs or holding money for dealers, in particular a former boyfriend.

In a June 12 appeal, a new attorney for Roger Burdette argued there was no testimony during the 2021 trial showing how the "trace drug amounts" in Burdette’s blood would affect him, and that the defense failed to present an expert to testify as to his phone usage leading up to the wreck.

“It is clear that (Myles Cosgrove) knew the flashing lights he witnessed in Ms. Taylor’s apartment were coming from gunfire; however, substantiated evidence supported the determination that (Cosgrove) was not clear on who he was firing at and whether there were multiple people in the line of fire,” according to the ruling.

The question facing the high court deals directly with Rondo’s situation: Does a person’s 2nd Amendment rights outweigh a federal law disqualifying the person from carrying a gun because of a domestic violence protective order against them?
