While attorneys for McAtee’s family say Katie Crews initiated the sequence of events leading to David McAtee’s death, federal prosecutors asked for a sentence of no incarnation arguing, in part, Crews was fairly new on the force and “clearly could not have foreseen the tragic outcome of her actions in this case.”
McAtee, a Louisville business owner, was shot and killed by the Kentucky National Guard during the first weekend of unrest in the city when protests erupted after the police killing of Breonna Taylor.
