The Louisville Metro Youth Detention Services center, off Jefferson Street downtown, was shut down in late December 2019 when Metro Council voted to pull city funding amid citywide budget cuts.

Under the current plan, the facility is expected to be used for only juveniles under 14 or males with low level offenses.

 Louisville’s youth detention center is scheduled to close in less than a month, and officials are still working on a plan to transition the youths.
