LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — University of Kentucky running back Jamarion Wilcox has been arrested and charged with first-degree sexual abuse, more than a month after a woman filed for a protective order alleging unwanted sexual contact at an off-campus apartment.
Wilcox was taken into custody Friday and booked into the Fayette County Detention Center, according to jail records. He had been suspended from the football team since the beginning of the season for what UK head coach Mark Stoops described at the time as a violation of team rules.
On Aug. 20, a 19-year-old woman filed for an emergency protective order alleging that Wilcox engaged in non-consensual conduct while visiting her apartment. The order was granted by a judge the same day, and a follow-up hearing was held Sept. 3. The protective order was extended through Nov. 3. No criminal charges were filed at that time.
UK officials released a brief statement Friday following Wilcox’s arrest: “We are aware of the situation with Jamarion and will continue to gather information and monitor the situation closely. He will continue to be withheld from competition and will not travel to South Carolina.”
The alleged incident occurred at a private residence on South Upper Street in Lexington. According to court records, the woman who filed the complaint said Wilcox was visiting her roommate but entered her bedroom and made unwanted sexual contact, prompting her to call police. Police responded to the scene, but Wilcox was not arrested at the time.
Friday’s arrest marks the first criminal charge in the case. As of Friday afternoon, no court date was available Wilcox’s next appearance.
Wilcox, a sophomore from Douglasville, Georgia, was Kentucky’s leading rusher last season, playing in all 12 games while starting four. He has not dressed or traveled with the team this year.
