LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB/WKYT) — A former University of Kentucky student has pleaded guilty in connection with her baby’s death.
Laken Snelling pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter, abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant.
Snelling was accused of hiding the birth and putting the baby’s body in a closet.
In court, Snelling admitted to "ending" her baby’s life "instead of helping him" and putting his body in a plastic bag.
Prosecutors recommended a 10-year sentence for manslaughter, one-year sentence for abuse of a corpse, one-year sentence for tampering with physical evidence and a 12-month sentence for concealing the birth of an infant.
