LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The 61-year-old man accused of hitting a crossing guard outside a Louisville middle school Thursday was arrested by Louisville police on "outstanding warrants."
A Louisville Metro Police spokesperson said an on-duty traffic guard was standing in the intersection outside Knight Middle School on Blue Lick Road around 7:05 a.m. Thursday performing traffic control duties with stop sign raised and visible. According to LMPD's investigation, a car traveling north on Blue Lick Road disregarded the traffic guard and her stop sign and struck her, knocking her to the ground.
LMPD said Thursday that the driver was "detained" at the scene outside the school. Charges were pending, police said. On Friday, LMPD said Eduardo Velasco was arrested on outstanding warrants. According to court documents, Velasco failed to appear in court several times in connection to 2024 charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
It's unclear whether Velasco faces any charges connected to hitting the traffic guard.
Police said she was alert and conscious and didn't need to be taken to a hospital.
