The Office for Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods (OSHN) said LMPD reported a 16% reduction in violence and 40% reduction in shootings in Louisville.
The money would come from round two of the American Rescue Plan.
The ordinance includes money for a mobile crisis response team made up of mental health professionals who would respond to calls that should be directed to a mental health specialists instead of police.
District 9 Councilman Bill Hollander expects more families will apply as the threat of eviction grows.
The full council still has to approve the plan, which will be taken up for a vote at the next meeting on Dec. 12.
Some council members questioned whether or not funding these programs is worthwhile while the city slashes other departments like Louisville Metro Police Department.
The zoo would ideally like 8,000 visitors each day. Last year, it only reached that goal about 50 times.
