Eight different people have filed to run for Jefferson County Public Schools' Board of Education, vying for four seats up for election this November.
The district is going from nine start times to three: 7:30 a.m., 8:40 a.m., and 9:40 a.m. at about 40 of its schools.
The district's decision to alter start times for the second year in a row follows a decision to cut transportation.
It's also unknown whether magnet and traditional students will get buses next year.
The options: settle for the current status of students missing millions of instructional minutes, or limit who gets a ride to and from school.
The Jefferson County School Board will take a deep dive Tuesday night into possible solutions to the transportation problems that have plagued the city's public school system all year.
On Monday, Jan. 15, there is no school because of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Some families are still facing hours long delays as their children ride buses to and from school.
The lawmakers said they are communicating with JCPS and other involved parties to figure out the transportation's short comings and what is the answer.
JCPS superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio said the school district plans to roll out proposals over the next few weeks to change school start times.
