Richard Essex is an Indiana native with deep roots in Kentucky. He and his wife have two children, the youngest born in Lexington.
Essex is a multiple-award-winning journalist with more than two decades of experience in the news industry. He has done extensive coverage of the Delphi murder case, the stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair and the Henryville tornado. He was also one of the first reporters to investigate the emerging heroin epidemic in Kentucky.
He is an avid golfer, a wantabe motorcycle mechanic with plenty of scars from a vintage Harley. Essex and his wife (a Jessamine County native) spend weekends exploring the area and visiting friends and family.
Essex comes to WDRB from Indianapolis, Indiana. He attended Indiana University in Bloomington and Indianapolis. Essex has also worked in Lexington and Raleigh, North Carolina.
