Rya Wooten joined the WDRB news team as a multiskilled journalist in December 2025.
Rya has worked in news in various capacities for four years. She previously worked as a multiskilled journalist in Portland, Maine, and she also worked as a digital content producer at a news station in Memphis, Tennessee.
Before working in the field, Rya earned her Master of Arts degree in Journalism and Strategic Media from University of Memphis, as well as a bachelor of arts degree from University of Tennessee Southern.
Her reporting draws attention to education, child welfare and socioeconomic disparities.
Outside of work, Rya is a mother of three children. She enjoys making memories with her family and serving her community.
She holds tight to a lesson she learned from renowned journalist Boyd Huppert: "The harder you work, the luckier you get."
