LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Bethlehem High School's girl's soccer coach was named private school Coach of the Year by the Kentucky High School Soccer Coaches Association.

In a news release Friday, the group said Scott Deopere led the team to the school's first-ever state Championship. The Banshees went 22-4-2 and beat Sacred Heart, 4-3, in the state title game in October.

Bethlehem's team is the second Class A team to win the girls state championship.

"It's a huge honor to be recognized in this way, but ultimately none of this is possible without a group of mostly multi-sport, talented athletes who believed, along with a great support staff. Kati Dailey, my Assistant, was a vital part of our team success this season, none of this happens without her trust and connection with the girls," Deopere said in a statement Friday.

The Banshees will graduate six seniors this spring including All-State players Carlie Thurmond and Ashlyn Miles.

Deopere said he looks forward to the future of the program building on the momentum of the state title.

All of us at WDRB are proud of the coach. Full disclosure, Deopere is a longtime member of the WDRB sales team and is a senior multi-media consultant. He is also has a masters in Sports Administration from the University of Louisville and is an accomplished soccer player.

Deopere was named NCAA Division III National Soccer Player of the Year while attending the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. From there, he was drafted into Professional Soccer's "A" League by the Cincinnati Riverhawks.
