LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A variety of current and former University of Kentucky and University of Louisville football players came together at Marion C. Moore High School for a common goal on Saturday: try to help local kids with a free football camp.
"When I was growing up, I didn't have J.J. Weaver or anybody to have a football camp here," Kentucky defensive end JJ Weaver said. "So, it's an honor and a blessing to come back."
Weaver hosted his Perfect Fit Football Camp at his alma mater on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. UK teammates like Octavious Oxendine and others attended to lend helping hands too.
Current and former Cardinals like junior defensive end Selah Brown, as well as six-year NFL offensive lineman Jamon Brown, also came out to do what they could. Everyone aimed to offer advice and football techniques, in addition to providing free food, drinks and merchandise, to younger players who may aspire to be just like them.
"We're all kids from Louisville," Selah Brown, a former Male High School star, said. "It's just one big thing to come together and help each other out."

Brown said he had not been too close to Weaver when both were prep stars in the Louisville area. But as they got older, the two formed a relationship and wanted to try to give back to their home together.
"At one time, we were in their position growing up," Brown said. "I think it's just important for us to show our faces to these kids and let them know, 'Hey man, I was in your shoes at one point. So, if I can do it, you can most definitely do it if you put your mind to it."
"It was a struggle for me," Weaver said. "So, I already know how it feels for the kids. It's hard to come out of Kentucky. They don't show us any love. We're the underdogs. It made me want to help."
