BRANDENBURG, Ky. (WDRB) — A woman was found murdered in her Meade County home in 2023. No arrests have been made, but two-and-a-half years later, her daughter came forward Friday with a renewed hope to solve the case.
Rhonda Aebersold lived on Old Mill Road. The Meade County Sheriff's Office said it received a call June 5, 2023, about a possible home break-in there. Once at the home, deputies found Aebersold dead inside, Sheriff Phillip Wimpee said at the time. A month later, police said they'd identified suspects and were continuing to eliminate other parties after serving more than 20 search warrants.
Detectives believe it was an isolated event with no additional threat to the public.
On Friday, Wimpee said they still aren't releasing how Aebersold died, as it could jeopardize the case. In fact, they're still waiting to get evidence back from the Kentucky State Police Forensic Lab.
He said new leads come in every day, and there are new persons of interest.
"All it's going to take is a spark, you all. That's all it's going to take," he said. "And I'm just waiting on that one spark."
Aebersold's daughter, Shelbi Saylor, said Friday that she trusts the sheriff's department and detectives as they work the case. She wants positivity the community.
Multiple agencies are investigating the case, but Detective Danny Knell wouldn't specify which ones. Saylor said she believes they're doing everything that they can.
Saylor said she's frustrated and has been waiting for answers. She's begging the community to come forward and help investigators find the person who killed her mother.
"I think it’s time that the community puts forward information, because somebody knows something," Saylor said. "This was a real person. She was a mother, a grandmother, a sister a friend, a member of this community, and it's time."
