LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Eintracht Frankfort is coming off an historical campaign.
They finished 3rd in the German Bundesliga and qualified for the Champions League. Its best season in over 30 years. So they decided to run it back with another summer trip to Louisville, its second in two years.
"I think it's a testament to the support we had at the game (last year) with over 10,000 people, the facilities they're able to use here and just our hospitality," said Jonathan Lintner, the Louisville City Vice President of Marketing and Communications. "We try to make this a great experience and certainly Louisville's central location doesn't hurt."
"We have been here last year and it was a blast," Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp said. "We head the base actually here for that historical season we had last year. It's crazy hot to be honest but the conditions, the pitches are impeccable so for us to do our preseason here is good."
It's a preseason trip, it's brand building in the states. Eintracht started training here Wednesday and they'll play the first of three games on the trip Saturday night at Lynn Family Stadium against English Premier League power Aston Villa.
"I think it's safe to say this is the highest caliber men's soccer game that has ever been played in the city of Louisville and the state of Kentucky and maybe even beyond," Lintner said.Â
That's a 7:00 pm start. And then Louisville City will get its shot against Eintracht Frankfort. That's a Tuesday night game starting at 7:30 pm.Â
