LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Before fireworks lit up the sky during Thunder Over Louisville on Saturday, Louisville City FC delivered its own excitement as a stoppage-time goal snapped the club’s two-match winless streak.

After more than 95 minutes of scoreless action, Jansen Wilson found the back of the net to give LouCity a 1-0 win over Sporting Club Jacksonville at Lynn Family Stadium.

“We weren’t good enough in the final third with our last action,” interim head coach Simon Bird said in a news release. “... But I was really happy with the mentality in the game. I thought that wasn’t an issue; we tried to play at a high tempo against a team that was set a little deeper. Middle third, we were great, but we just couldn’t get one going in the final third.”

Wilson was one of five second-half substitutes. He scored after cutting inside and finding the corner off a feed from Jake Morris.

Jacksonville failed to record a single shot on goal as Saturday marked LouCity’s second clean sheet in USL play.

The win and three points that come with it put LouCity back in the East’s top spot.

Next up, LouCity hosts the Prinx Tires USL Cup at Lynn Family Stadium on Saturday, April 25, against Fort Wayne FC of USL League One.
