LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville City FC lost 2-1 to Detroit City FC on Sunday, but clinched a top-two Eastern Conference finish.
LouCity (20-6-2) played a man down most of the second half at Keyworth Stadium. It was LouCity's second defeat in 10 games.
"I don’t think our execution in the final third was of the level that we’re capable of," LouCity coach Danny Cruz said. "We have to learn from it and make sure we push forward and respond next week."
Both teams scored goals in the first half. Sean Totsch scored Louisville's only goal four minutes into stoppage time ahead of halftime.
Phillip Goodrum received his second yellow card for contact in the 49th minute, forcing LouCity to play shorthanded for the remainder of the match.
Connor Rutz scored the go-ahead goal in the 67th minute.
“I think the motivation is the understanding that when we’ve had 11 players on the field, it’s been quite a long time since we lost a game,” Cruz said. “We’ve got to be more discipline when the playoffs come. It becomes about discipline. It becomes about making sure that you leave emotion in the locker room."
LouCity will host Memphis 901 FC on Saturday at Lynn Family Stadium.
