LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – Louisville and Indiana have taken turns knocking each other around in faraway locations the past two seasons. This December, the rivalry heads to Indianapolis.
As reported by WDRB's Rick Bozich back in April, the teams will square off on Saturday, Dec. 6, in Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the same day as the Big Ten Championship football game in Lucas Oil Stadium.
On Thursday, the schools announced a 2 p.m. tipoff time, with CBS televising. The game will be part of the CareSource Invitational Indianapolis -- Supporting Mental Health.

“We’ve focused on building a strong, competitive non-conference schedule and the addition of a formidable opponent like Indiana was a great fit,” said head coach Pat Kelsey. “Indianapolis, like Louisville, is a basketball-rich city and playing the game in Gainbridge Fieldhouse is sure to create an elite atmosphere that both fanbases can enjoy. I’m excited for our team to be part of this event come December.”
Kelsey is entering his second season at Louisville. Darian DeVries will be in his first season at IU.
Indiana leads the all-time series 12-10, but Louisville routed the Hoosiers 89-61 in the 2024 Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas after falling to IU in the 2023 Empire Classic in New York. The teams are 4-4 on neutral courts and have met three times previously in Indianapolis — with U of L winning two of those, most recently a 77-62 win in 2016 led by Donovan Mitchell.
