LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – duPont Manual High School alumnus Yared Nuguse has punched his ticket to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Nuguse finished in second in the Men’s 1500m Final at the USA Track and Field Olympic Trials on Monday night. This means the former Notre Dame star is slated to compete in his first Olympic Games. He also qualified to compete in the last Summer Olympics in Tokyo, but an injury prevented him from participating.

"It just means so much to be able to come back and make up for what I wasn't able to do three years ago," Nuguse told the NBC broadcast after the race. "I'm excited to go to Paris."

In just his second season as a professional, Nuguse continues his fast rise as one of distance running’s young stars. Before making Team USA’s Olympic squad, the 25-year-old won a silver in the 3,000m indoor event at the World Championships. As a 23-year-old rookie, he set three American indoor records and an outdoor one as well.

During a decorated prep career with the Crimsons, Nuguse was a state champion who won the 800m, 1,600m, and 3,200m events. With the Fighting Irish, he won national and ACC championships while also setting an NCAA record in the 1500m.

Another former Crimson star continued his quest for a ticket to Paris. Darius Brown advanced out of the first round of the 110m hurdles, meaning he will run in the event’s semifinals on Thursday.
