LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Rob Dillingham, one of the most dangerous offensive players in college basketball for Kentucky last season, was taken with the No. 8 pick of the NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night in Brooklyn.
Then, almost instantly, the Spurs announced they had traded Dillingham to the Minnesota Timberwolves, putting the Kentucky guard immediately with a contender, where he will play alongside All-Star Anthony Edwards.
Dillingham was virtually unguardable at times in his lone season in Lexington, quick with the ball and capable of devastating shooting streaks from the perimeter. The 6-1 guard from Hickory, N.C., averaged 15.2 points and 3.9 assists per game. He also shot 44.4 percent from three-point range.
He was voted the SEC's Sixth Man of the Year. He was the first UK player to declare for the draft after the departure of head coach John Calipari.
Along with fellow reserve guard Jeff Sheppard, he gives Kentucky two Top 10 picks for the fifth time under Calipari.
