LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — What a wonderful day to be a local college football fan.
With matching 5-0 records, both the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky entered the AP writers’ and USA Today coaches’ Top 25 polls Sunday for the first time this season.
After thrashing Florida, 33-14, at Kroger Field in Lexington Saturday, the Wildcats landed at No. 20 in both polls. UK knocked the Gators out of the Top 25, defeating Florida for the third consecutive season.
The Cardinals were rewarded for their 13-10 victory at North Carolina State Friday night by climbing to No. 25 in both polls. Under first-year coach Jeff Brohm, Louisville has won 3 road games and must play only 2 of its final 7 games away from home.
The spotlight will be trained on the Cards and Wildcats this week.
Kentucky will play No. 1 Georgia Saturday at 7 p.m. in Athens. Listed as a 21 1/2-point underdog last Friday, Kentucky moved to a 17-point underdog against Kirby Smart’s unbeaten back-to-back national championship program Sunday.
UK is one of seven ranked teams from the Southeastern Conference.
Louisville will host No. 10 Notre Dame Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at L&N Cardinal Stadium. The Cards are listed as a 6 1/2-point underdog against the Fighting Irish, who rallied to beat Duke in the final minute Saturday night in Durham, N.C.
The Cards are one of 5 ranked teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
