LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Do you feel like there's a piece missing from your family? It may be time to adopt a dog then.
The Kentucky Humane Society has hundreds of dogs ready for adoptions, ranging from all different ages.
Andrea Mattingly with KHS, along with six adorable puppies, visited WDRB Mornings on Wednesday to talk about the adoption process and what kind of a commitment it can be.
Contrary to popular belief, KHS receives puppies quite frequently in their shelter. They are either rescued from troubled situations, brought in from smaller, rural shelters or found as strays.

Puppies are ready to adopt at eight weeks. They all are either spayed or neutered and are up to date on all vaccines before they hit the adoption floor.
KHS also has adult dogs in their shelter if a puppy isn't the best idea for you.
Adoptions start at $395 with puppies and typically range upward with adult dogs as they have shelter fees for their stays.
From now until Feb. 14, KHS is waiving all adoption fees for their adult dogs to give their big dogs some big love for Valentine's Day!
If you are interested in adopting, Mattingly said on WDRB Mornings that the easiest thing to do is come into the shelter and get started.
While adopting an animal can be a huge commitment, KHS has several resources available to help you adapt well with your new pet.
They offer a mobile vet clinic that is an affordable option for all things vet related, as well as pet resource counselors that you can call if you run into any questions with your new pet.
"It is very important that when you adopt an animal, you are adopting it for its whole life and not just a part of it," Mattingly said.
