LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) ā For so many spectators, Derby is once in a lifetime. A bucket list item you take pictures of and talk about fondly for years, realizing it probably won't happen again.
For four well-known faces at the track, it's every year. We've dubbed Darren Rogers, Kevin Kerstein, Steve Buttleman, and Matt Bizell as the "Churchill OGs."
They know the track like it's their backyard, and they're sharing where they would park their backsides on Oaks and Derby.
Director of Horticulture, Matt Bizzell's pick: Winner's Circle Suites, Section 10, Seat 2A
"This is one of my favorite spots on the track during Derby Day, because of all the activity that goes on here."
Bizell added you can see every horse make its way on and off the track.
"All of the famous people that come will often visit the winner's circle right in front of me," he said.
The price tag for that area is priceless. The track gifts the tickets to owners of Derby horses.
Track spokesman, Darren Rogers' pick: Home Stretch Club Terrace, Table A13
This is a new area of the track, that lets you see the race as it unfolds.
"It's covered," Rogers said. "I can sit down and relax at a table with the terrace. If I want to go inside, I can go to the hoppin' new Home Stretch Club."
The seat costs $2,000 for Oaks and Derby.
Publicity Manger, Kevin Kerstein's pick: Starting Gate Courtyard, Section 4, Row 4
"You're sort of in the main area of the race, where the winning move is run, during the Kentucky Derby," he said.
$1,600 will get you in that seat, where you can see the starting gate, and be in the middle of that loud roar from the crowd for Oaks and Derby.
Bugler, Steve Buttleman's pick: Stakes Room, A14
Buttleman is going much higher than his usual perch on the Pagoda and right next to the Twin Spires.
"I can come out on the patio if I want to," Buttleman said. "I'm covered, I can come out in the sun if it's nice, and I've got the best view in the house."
That two-day ticket would set him back to the tune of around $6,800.
It's easy to pick when you don't have to pay. Being a "Churchill OG" has its perks.
