It seems like it's been cold forever in our area right? It got really cold before the snow even got here this past weekend. The last time we were at or above freezing in Louisville was around 9:15pm on January 22nd.

That's this past Thursday! That means we've nearly gone a whole week already without touching the freezing mark! We've only managed to get into the upper 20s since then at best.

At the time of this posting (6pm on Jan 28th), that's 140 hours and 45 minutes straight of below freezing! Here's the thing though...we're not done!

We're projecting Louisville to stay below freezing until next Wednesday afternoon! That's an additional week from today almost! If that happens, then Louisville will be below freezing for around 305 total hours!

That's wild, right? Is it the longest Louisville has ever gone below freezing? Not even close!

Here's the top 3 longest stretch below freezing in Louisville:

3: Near 336 Hours - 1978 (14 days)

Some of you may recall, this was the last time the Ohio River froze completely over!

2: Near 360 Hours - 1966 (15 days)

Louisville saw 13.1" of snow very early on in the season in November!

1: 408+ Hours - January 1918

This was a part of the coldest "high" temperature ever recorded in Louisville of -2.

Crazy, right??

In order for Louisville to reach near #1 status from this time around at around 408 hours, we'd need to stay below freezing until February 8th! That won't happen, but that gives you an idea on how long that cold spell lasted!
