Matthew Wine is a Louisville native and could not be more excited to be back home. He spent the past four years with the amazing people of Dothan, Alabama, as the evening and eventually Chief Meteorologist at WDHN.

Matthew's interest in weather started when his mom turned on The Weather Channel every night to watch the coverage of Hurricane Katrina. As a thrill-seeker, he was amazed that people could actually get paid to place themselves in the path of a hurricane and give reports from inside the storm. He vividly remembers Louisville getting hurricane force wind gusts from Ike in 2008, the brutal ice storm of 2009, and many spring and summertime thunderstorms with tornadoes blaring in the distance.

In his middle school years, Matthew would take videos of thunderstorms from the front porch of his house in the Fern Creek area to capture every lightning strike possible. Lightning is still one of the top weather phenomena that piques his interest.

Matthew attended the English Station campus of Christian Academy of Louisville from Kindergarten to Senior year. He fondly remembers classmates asking him about how hot it would be and if there would be any severe storms that week. Growing up, he played basketball and baseball, ran track, and took karate classes.

Matthew also obtained his Eagle Scout award during his Freshman year of high school. He is forever grateful for the camping trips he went on and the lessons he learned while with Troop & Venture Crew 212. He says those leaders, including his dad, helped make him into the man he is today.

In 2019, Matthew obtained his Meteorology and Broadcast degree from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Ky. He’ll never forget all the meetings he went to for different meteorology clubs and the many impactful nights he had worshipping and learning about God at Christian Student Fellowship.

One of the most amazing experiences he had in college was being WKU’s mascot, Big Red. The belly-rolling, head-eating mascot embodies the Spirit of WKU and took Matthew to many places across the US. Putting a smile on people’s faces (especially children and those with special needs) made every sweaty moment extremely special.

If you have suggestions for how Matthew can get involved in the community, please reach out to him! He loves meeting new people and helping where he can.
