LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — It's less than a month away from Derby, and the celebrations have already started leading up to the two most exciting minutes in sports.
The Kentucky Derby Festival held its 5th annual block party Saturday at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center in Louisville's Russell neighborhood.
There were lots of food trucks, live entertainment, family activities, and vendors, with a focus on minority-owned businesses, at the MELANaire Marketplace.
More than 20 nonprofits were also on hand offering resources to families along with local churches.
"The rain hasn't slowed people down," said Nachand Trabue. "The good thing about it, it brought people to the inside of the track. We are here to celebrate today. We celebrate culture, we celebrate commerce, and we also celebrate creativity all in one place."
Families could also take part in Easter egg hunts, a VIP lounge, and check out the latest styles in Derby hats.
