LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Families in Kentucky can introduce children to fishing this weekend.

Union Sportsmen's Alliance is hosting free fishing events in Paducah, Lexington and Louisville on May 17. The public events are intended to introduce children and families to fishing opportunities.

According to a news release Monday, the first 150 registered children at each event will receive a free fishing rod and reel. The three Kentucky locations include:

  • Paducah Take Kids Fishing Day, from 9 a.m. to noon at Bob Noble Park located at 2801 Park Ave., Paducah, KY, 42001
  • Lexington Take Kids Fishing Day from 9 a.m. to noon at Jacobson Park located at 4001 Athens-Boonesboro Road, Shelter #1, Lexington, KY, 40509
  • Louisville Take Kids Fishing Day from 9 a.m. to noon at Waverly Park Lake located at 4800 Waverly Park Road, Louisville, KY, 40214

Union Sportsmen's Alliance said outdoor activities like fishing spark curiosity for children and develop a lasting appreciation for nature and conservation.
