LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A golden eagle that spends her winters near Louisville is making her way back to Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest.
The nature preserve in Bullitt County said Athena, an eastern golden eagle, is migrating south after the nesting season in Canada. She has been tracked since 2019 via GPS.
Athena departed Wapusk National Park on Oct. 19. The bird flew south through Manitoba and into northern Ontario. By late October, she passed Wabakimi Provencial Park.
Athena has traveled more than 700 miles and has around 1,000 miles to go.
