LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville neighborhood's Halloween tradition is continuing its mission to help those in need.
Hillcrest Avenue has made its transformation into its typical October décor. The spectacle began as a competition between neighbors in the 80s.
Now, more than 50 homes participate with over-the-top Halloween-inspired decorations.Â
More than 75,000 typically visit the street over the course of October. Many of the homes have baskets on their steps, asking for donations for the hungry.

Homeowners said it's a way to make a difference while also enjoying the spooky season.
"We've been doing this for at least 15 years," Diana Gautier said. "I've already emptied my crate three times. It's exciting, the tradition."
All items are donated to Hillcrest Ministries. You can drop off canned foods and powdered goods or cash, just look for the signs next to the donation bins.
The houses along Hillcrest Avenue plan to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters on Thursday from 5-9 p.m.
