LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- If you're looking to welcome a new furry friend into your home, now might be the time as shelters max out their capacity.

The Kentucky Humane Society is waiving all adoption fees on adult dogs and cats through July 19 as part of the "Empty the Shelters" campaign.

The goal is to get as many animals adopted as possible as shelters reach max capacity.

Walk-ins are welcome at the KHS offices on Steedly Drive in Louisville. Visits are hosted between 11 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Hours are extended until 7 p.m. every Thursday.

You can also visit the KHS East Campus on Lyndon Lane. Visits are held from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Hours are extended at the campus until 7 p.m. every Friday.

Adoption fees are waived thanks to the Bissell Pet Foundation and its "Empty the Shelters" program. The organization said it makes adoptions affordable by "supporting participating organizations with reimbursement for each pet adopted."

The waived adoption fees come as KHS asks for donations of needed supplies ahead of its Enrichment Fair this month, where volunteers will make enrichment treats for the animals at the shelters.

Items needed are found at the grocery store: Chicken and beef bone broth; popsicle sticks; Canned chicken, tuna and vegetables; Churus or other squeezable cat treats; ice cream cones; parchment paper; aluminum foil; canned pumpkin and canned sweet potato.

Donations can be dropped off at the KHS Main Campus on Steedly Drive, outside the Admissions Department doors.

Donations can also be made by purchasing items on the shelter's Amazon and Chewy wish lists.
