LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Hundreds of families are getting ready to serve thousands of JCPS students at more than 30 schools on August 4.

Northeast Christian Church's Love the Ville Outreach program has been around for a decade. Nine years ago, it started its largest day of service, their annual School Blitz.

800 volunteers will be pulling weeds, spreading mulch, trimming bushes, and sorting books for 34 campuses in Jefferson and Oldham counties from 9 a.m. to noon on Au. 4.Ā

As of July 28, volunteers are still needed for Brandeis Elementary School, Breckinridge Franklin Elementary School,Ā Greathouse / Shryock Elementary, and East Oldham Middle School. For a list of all 34 schools,Ā click here.

The night of Monday, July 29 is the deadline to sign up to volunteer. For a link to register,Ā click here.

There will be a check-in coordinator at each school. Northeast leaders ask you to check in before you begin working, no matter what time you arrive.

For those planning to attend, you'll need to bring the following items:

  • Water – plenty of water because water won't be supplied at the sites
  • Work gloves - there will beĀ a few available at each site, but not enough for everyoneĀ
  • Rake -Ā if you have one readily available
  • Hedge Trimmer -Ā if you have one readily available
  • Loppers/Pruners -Ā if you have one readily available
  • Wheelbarrow -Ā if you have one readily available

Additional roles also include truck drivers, popsicle runners, and prayer teams members.

Love the Ville impacts JCPS schools year-round throughout school pantries, prom projects, sports ministry and more.

It serves women and children in partnership with the ACE Project, Scarlet Hope, the Portland Promise Center, and more.

It also has housing partnerships with New Directions Housing Corporation and House2Home; and homelessness and human trafficking partnerships with UP for Women and Children, Kentucky Refugee Ministry, and The Prisoners Hope.

In recent years, volunteers collected and delivered urgent supplies to tornado victims in Western Kentucky and flooding victims in Eastern Kentucky.

In 2020, Love the Ville volunteers helped keep daycares open for parents who were struggling with reduced income. It also serves 50 non-profits, businesses, and churches throughout Thanksgiving boxes and hygiene kits.
