LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An organization in Louisville that has supported children and families for more than 140 years is collecting essential items for people in need this holiday season.

Home of the Innocents was established in 1880 to enrich the lives of children and families, offering residential and community-based behavioral health services, therapeutic foster care and adoption services, long-term care for medically complex children, along with supportive resources for homeless young adults.

The nonprofit started its 12 Days of Christmas donation drive on Wednesday. It goes until Dec. 21.

"Our outreach team will have a specific item each day they are requesting as part of their Christmas List this year," Home of the Innocents posted on Facebook. "Be sure to watch our stories on Facebook and Instagram everyday from now until December 21st so you don't miss any of these essential items that will support our residents at the home."

The first items being asked for are socks. Donations are be dropped off at 1100 E Market Street.

Home of the Innocents has served about 2,000 homeless people in the last two decades in Louisville. To learn more about the Home of the Innocents, click here.
