LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- U.S. News' Best States Rankings for 2023 are out, but neither Kentucky or Indiana came out on top.
Utah took the No. 1 spot, followed by Washington and Idaho.
Indiana was quite a bit further down, coming in at 29th. The Hoosier state ranked well when it came to opportunity, education, crime and fiscal stability. But the state ranked 43rd in health care and 50th in natural environment. Indiana ranked 7th for opportunity and 17th in education.
Kentucky ranked 10 spots lower, coming in at 39th. The commonwealth ranked in the top half for crime and corrections, natural environment, infrastructure and opportunity. But health care, economy and fiscal stability brought the state's ranking down.
U.S. News said it uses 71 metrics across eight categories for the rankings. Categories are assigned "weights" based on the average from three years of data pulled from national surveys.
