LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The Kentucky Derby Festival is looking for volunteers for its signature events this spring.
There will be more than 70 events for the 2025 celebration, and thousands of volunteers are needed to sell Pegasus Pins, escort marching bands at the Pegasus Parade and hand medals to runners finishing the miniMarathon and marathon.
"Our month-long celebration would not be possible without our volunteers, who are vital in helping make the Derby Festival magic happen each spring," Matt Gibson, president and CEO of KDF, said in a news release Wednesday. "We have opportunities to help for a couple of hours or an entire day. Plus, volunteers receive special perks, including a behind-the-scenes look at the Derby Festival's biggest events."
Volunteers are needed at several signature events, including:
- April 17: Republic Bank BourbonVille, which includes set up, assisting with vendor and distillery load-in and various other duties
- April 19: Block Party presented by Churchill Downs, Humana and Park Community Credit Union for assistance with event set up and monitoring various activities throughout the day
- April 26: GE Appliances miniMarathon and Marathon to assist with set up and/or tear down or be part of the support team at the finish line
- April 27: Zoeller Pump Company Pegasus Parade as a shuttle host or serve as an ambassador with one of the parade floats or equestrian units
- April 29: Commonwealth Credit Union WineFest to check in vendors and various other duties
Volunteers will also be asked to sell Pegasus pins at a variety of events, including Thunder Over Louisville and Kroger's Fest-a-Ville on the Waterfront. If a group of 10 or more sell pins, they can also earn money for their organization.
Volunteers receive special perks like an official volunteer shirt and pin, a front-row seat to festival events and discounts on Derby Festival merchandise.
