Make sure your solar eclipse glasses are ready for the big show Monday! Young kids may have a hard time understanding the need for the glasses and keeping them on their face the whole time, so here's an idea to help.
You'll need a paper plate, sharp knife, marker, tape, and supplies to decorate your "eclipse mask." Lay your eclipse glasses face down on the plate. The plate should sit on the table like you're about to eat off it. Trace the shape of the glasses onto the plate with your marker. First, cut vertical holes directly on the outer edges you traced; the posts of the glasses will go through those. Next, cut a triangle out under the nose; again, cutting directly on the line you drew. This is where the creation will rest on your child's face. Finally, cut a rectangular hole for the glasses to look through, but this time cut INSIDE the line you drew. The opening shouldn't be as wide as the glasses because you need part of the plate there to tape the glasses to. Please watch the video for a demonstration!
Now that all the cuts are made, it's time to decorate the rest of the paper plate! This is a great way to keep kids entertained Monday while they're out of school. The last step is to tape the glasses to the paper plate. Remember to stick the earpieces through the slits you made on each side to keep the glasses more secure. Then tape the front part of the glasses to the plate. If you do this activity, post a photo on social media an tag me! I would love to share your ideas.
