19-year-old dies after crash in Jeffersonville, police say

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A 19-year-old woman died in a single-vehicle crash in Jeffersonville on Saturday morning, according to police.

According to Jeffersonville Police Department, the single-vehicle crash happened near Vissing Park Road, close to Vissing Park, around 4:08 a.m. Police said seven to eight people were in the vehicle when the crash happened.

Witnesses told police that the group had been drinking alcohol at Vissing Park prior to the crash. Police said a 16-year-old female, who showed signs of alcohol impairment, was driving the vehicle.

Police said people riding in the vehicle were treated at the scene while multiple victims were taken to hospitals. Their injuries were minor, according to police.

Raven Sierra Newsome died in the crash.

"The Jeffersonville Police Department extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Raven Newsome during this incredibly difficult time," Jeffersonville Police Department stated in a news release. "Our thoughts are with them as they navigate this tragic loss."
