LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- In an emotional interview with LMPD investigators, 19-year-old Tiffany James detailed what led up to the stabbing death of 14-year-old Madison Branch last month.
"She was hitting me, and I didn't even think I hit her," James said. "She was holding me down and pulling my hair, and I didn't think I hit her. I couldn't even move."
Video of the fight surfaced online. In it, you can see James, in green, go down and allegedly pull out a knife. Branch was stabbed to death.
James does admit to having a knife, but her family said she was defending herself. James claims Branch was part of a group of girls that followed and taunted James and her sister as they left their home and walked to a Speedway on June 26.Â
James added in the interview with police that she tried to help Branch before EMS arrived on scene. Both sides admit there's a history of bullying, but the victim's family said Branch was not the bully.
James is behind bars and has pleaded not guilty.
