LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two Indiana residents are in jail after police say a 68-year old man died in their care.
According to a spokesperson for Indiana State Police, 50-year-old Russell Cartuyvelles and 56-year-old Patricia Campbell, both of Pekin, Indiana, were booked in the Washington County Detention Center Wednesday morning.
Police say they are charged with neglect of a dependent in their care resulting in death. The victim, 68-year-old Danny D. Harris, lived with the suspects at their home, according to police. Police say he was unable to take care of himself, due to physical and mental issues, and the suspects acted as his caretakers.Â
"Honestly, I didn't know anything was wrong until I got a phone call that he had passed," said Andrea Johnson, Harris' sister.
Johnson said it has been nearly a month and she still has questions.
She said, "Something wasn't right. Something wasn't right."
On February 13th, paramedics responded to this home on South Robbs Lane. Harris eventually died, but family members still reached out to Adult Protective Services in Indianapolis.
Johnson said, "As a matter of fact, they're the ones that said call the state police. I contact them and they said, they couldn't do anything for Danny because he was already dead."

Harris paid them for room and board, as well as care -- but police say the home was not a licensed care facility and neither Cartuyvelles nor Campbell are licensed care providers.
"Just basically a regular house, a regular residence with subjects basically paying to be cared for and to live there, and some of them just being in the house," said Sgt. Carey Huls, Indiana State Police.
Campbell and Cartuyvelles are currently being held in the Washington County Detention Center on one $80,000 cash bond each.Â
They are both scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday morning.
"It was one big relief," said Johnson. "I was so happy, I mean just tears just started coming out."
