LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Two Louisville golf courses celebrated a major milestone Tuesday.
The Crescent Hill and Shawnee golf courses marked their 100th anniversaries.
"For 100 years, these public golf courses have welcomed golfers of all ages and skill levels from every neighborhood in Louisville and beyond," Mayor Craig Greenberg said in a news release. "As we celebrate this incredible milestone for both courses, we are committed to preserving their rich history while making the changes and the investments needed to provide exceptional golf experiences for generations to come."
Crescent Hill Golf Course opened in 1926 as Louisville's second municipal course. The nine-hole course features a driving range, full-service pro shop and golf instruction.
Shawnee Golf Course is an 18-hole course known for its active youth programming. A two-man team championship will be held Aug. 1-2 to celebrate the centennial.
"Public golf courses are one of the most important ways we open the game to more people," said Michelle King, executive director of Louisville Parks and Recreation, in a news release. "Our municipal courses make golf more approachable, affordable, and accessible — whether someone is picking up a club for the first time, sharpening their swing on the range, joining a league, or participating in youth programming."

Mark Wilson was named Tuesday as the city's first-ever golf agronomist. He previously served as superintendent of Valhalla Golf Club.
