Reported tornado leaves multiple injuries and heavy damage across Grayson County

GRAYSON COUNTY, Ky. (WDRB) — Multiple people were injured and at least 20 structures were damaged after a reported tornado tore through Grayson County Tuesday afternoon.

According to Grayson County Emergency Management, one person was hospitalized with "serious injuries" and multiple others were treated for minor injuries.

Carey Sims, Director of Grayson County EMS, said many structures in the area were devastated by the storms.

"Early estimates are about 20 to 25 buildings damaged, and some of them are completely gone," Sims said.

Sims said houses in the rural community, Wax, on Broad Ford Road, were some of the "hardest hit."

"A lot of our homes are lake homes, so people weren't here," Sims said. "....So they don't know yet that they have damage."

Multiple local fire departments responded to the storm damage, along with the Grayson County Sheriff's Department. Sims said his team plans on conducting more through damage assessments Wednesday morning to submit to the state.

"These are our community members," Sims said. "...You can see the distress in their face hear the heartache in their voice, it's kind of tough. But we got a lot of people here that are going to be helping them."

Severe storms hit several Kentucky counties Tuesday afternoon. An 'extremely dangerous' tornado in Hart County near Munfordville was radar-confirmed by the National Weather Service, and several other Kentucky counties were under tornado warnings.

The full scope of the damage across the state is unknown at this time. The NWS said it will conduct weather surveys Wednesday morning.
