LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Two Louisville Metro Police officers were seriously injured after a vehicle crashed into them while helping a stranded motorist Friday evening.

Aaron Ellis, a spokesperson for LMPD, said two officers were responding to a stranded motorist on Newburg Road at Abernathy Road around 10:15 p.m.

Both officers were outside of their marked vehicle with the emergency lights on while checking on the stranded vehicle.

According to police, a vehicle headed south on Newburg Road then rear-ended the police vehicle. Police said both officers and the driver were taken to UofL Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the driver who crashed into the officers may have been intoxicated but test results haven't come back yet.
