2 men shot and killed Monday morning inside Louisville apartment

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville police said two "young" men were shot and killed Monday morning inside an apartment complex near Okolona.

Louisville Metro Police officers were called to an apartment complex on Napa Valley Court just before 10:30 a.m. Monday. That's in a neighborhood off South Park Road near Blue Lick Road.

LMPD spokesperson John Bradley said witnesses told officers on scene they heard multiple gunshots inside the apartment and saw "several" people running from the scene afterward.

Once inside, officers found two men dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Bradley said it's too early in the investigation to pinpoint the victims' exact ages but said they both appeared "young."

"As a parent and as a human being, I can't imagine the horrific sense of grief and loss that somebody is going through learning that this happened," Bradley said. "This is a tragedy for this neighborhood."

Their relatives, friends and neighbors huddled together hours after the shooting, pleading with police for answers. Neighbors said a young woman recently rented the apartment. Her neighbors hardly knew her but they could tell the neighborhood was changing.

"It's very devastating ... for our young youth here," said Christina Short, who lives in a nearby apartment. "... These children shouldn't be having to worry about if they're going to lose their life just living next door to somebody."

In the absence of concrete answers from police, neighbor said they'll lock their doors and look around every corner with extra vigilance.

"They're just scared," Short said. "They're scared to walk out of their apartment. They're scared for their family. They're scared for their kids. They're scared of what might come through their walls."
