LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Two Louisville men were arrested after Louisville police said they were caught stealing copper wire from the interstate.

Louisville Metro Police said Sunday in a Facebook post officers were called Saturday night to a theft in progress of copper wire in the area near Interstate 65 and Interstate 265. When officers arrived, they quickly established a perimeter while other officers searched for the suspects.

In the post, LMPD said officers found two men "actively stripping and burning the infrastructure wire" to hide its identity.

Police arrested 54-year-old Robert Kelly and 43-year-old Daniel Bentley. Both Kelly and Bentley are charged with criminal mischief and trespass of a key infrastructure.

While searching Kelly, he told police he had a small amount of meth in his pocket, according to his citation. Police also said both men admitted to stealing the wire from the interstate guardrail to scrap it for money.
