LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Three firefighters were injured after a heavy fire broke out at a vacant home early Sunday morning in Louisville's California neighborhood.
According to Donovan Sims, a spokesperson for the Louisville Fire Department, crews responded at 12:09 a.m. to a heavy fire in the 1600 block of Prentice Street at a vacant two-story home that was spreading to a nearby house.
Officials said a second alarm was requested for additional resources. The fire was brought under control at 1 a.m.
According to LFD, it took 49 firefighters to confine the fire to the primary structure. A wall also collapsed during operations.
Three firefighters were injured while battling the flames. Sims said one firefighter was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and two other firefighters sustained minor injuries but remained on duty.
No one was inside the home at the time of the fire.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
