LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Nine local health care heroes were recognized for their efforts to improve the well-being of Kentuckians.

WellCare of Kentucky hosted its fourth annual Community Health Champions Awards at Churchill Downs. Honorees were recognized for their community efforts including flood and tornado recovery service, home repairs for vulnerable people, substance abuse treatment, health equity in at-risk communities and teen suicide.

"We are recognizing every day Kentuckians for amazing work, people who sacrifice in their jobs to make life better for other people," Gov. Andy Beshear said.
